Ultrasound-guided barbotage of calcifications
Barbotage is a technique to remove shoulder calcifications without surgery. Guided by ultrasound, it allows the calcium deposit causing the pain to be «washed out» and aspirated.
Book appointmentWhen is it indicated?
- Calcifications of the shoulder rotator cuff
- Shoulder pain from calcific tendinitis
What does the procedure involve?
Under ultrasound control, I access the calcification with a needle, dissolve it and aspirate it. It is an outpatient procedure that, in many cases, avoids the need for surgery.
Frequently asked questions
Is the whole calcification removed?
The aim is to reduce it and relieve the pain. In many cases the improvement is significant; I'll explain what to expect based on your ultrasound.
